Dorothy Lefford, an accomplished graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in occupational therapy, has established herself as a leading authority on autism. Her journey at Easterseals Florida has been marked by the initiation of numerous groundbreaking programs, interventions, and diagnostic services. Notably, Mrs. Lefford played a pivotal role in the inception of the Autism Center of Excellence in 2007. Her expertise extends to the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule evaluation tool, and she is recognized as a Certified PLAY Project Home Consultant. In October 2021, Mrs. Lefford achieved the prestigious designation of Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist. She has received many accolades attesting to her expertise and service. To highlight just a few; Easterseals Excellence in Clinical Practice, Present’s award for emphasizing innovation and impact, Community Leader award from Keiser University and she was also selected as a 2022 Women in Business Honoree in Volusia County. Additionally , Dorothy was chosen for a teaching/ skills exchange program with Abilities First in Australia in 2017.
In her role as Senior Vice President of Autism Diagnostic and Therapy Services , Mrs. Lefford oversees a dedicated workforce of 65+ clinical professionals delivering therapy ,diagnostic and case management services to over 2800 children on a weekly basis. Her impact extends beyond Easterseals, as she actively contributes in advisory capacities at Daytona State College and Keiser University. Mrs. Lefford not only manages to lead but also finds joy in teaching at these institutions, supporting allied health programs.
