I want to volunteer. What do I do now?
- Contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Jessica Kraemer at (407)919-4535 to discuss your interests, location, and availability.
- You will need to complete our volunteer application.
- The Volunteer Coordinator will email you the volunteer paperwork packet to complete prior to staring the volunteer opportunity. Once this is completed and returned to our Volunteer Coordinator, your background screening process will begin. This generally takes 5 to 10 business days but may take longer based upon the outside screening companies.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
You must be at least 16 years old to volunteer. Some of our programs can only accommodate volunteers who are 18 years old and above.
Can I start volunteering as early as tomorrow?
No, due to the population that we serve, you may need to go through up to a level two background screening process. You can typically start volunteering within two weeks of completing the volunteer paperwork packet (dependent upon how quickly the background screening organizations are able to complete the screening).
Can I volunteer at more than one Easterseals program?
Yes, once you have completed the volunteer paperwork and background screening process you may volunteer at any of our programs throughout the state. Click here to see where you can volunteer.
How often can I volunteer? Can I volunteer whenever I have free time?
This depends on each program’s needs. We will work with you to set up a volunteer schedule that best fits your availability and the program needs.
I am a teen and need to finish my community service hours for high school. Can I volunteer?
Yes, but you must be at least 16 years old in order to volunteer without a parent or guardian present. If you need verification of your volunteer hours, we will be happy to complete any additional paperwork required by your school.
Can I serve my court ordered community service hours at one of Easterseals Florida’s programs?
No, unfortunately Easterseals Florida does not accept applications from those attempting to complete court ordered community services hours.
Will I need to get a background check in order to volunteer?
Yes, all volunteers will be required to have a local law background screening completed. If you are planning to volunteer 10 or more hours per month, you need to complete a Level II background check which includes fingerprinting, and additional background checks.
Why do I have to do a background check?
Easterseals provides direct services to children and/or individuals with disabilities or special needs at each of our programs across the state of Florida. Florida law requires a background check in order to ensure the safety and protection of our clients and families.
Can I start volunteering before my background check results come back?
No, you must wait to be approved. When your results have been cleared, you will be notified that you may begin volunteering. Results come back generally within 5 to 10 business days but may take longer based upon the outside screening companies.
Is there a volunteer dress code?
Yes, the Volunteer Dress Code Policy will be provided to you in the Volunteer Paperwork Packet but some program locations may have different requirements, which will be shared with you by the program manager/team member.
Who should I contact if I have questions?
Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Jessica Kraemer, at (407)919-4535.
